These 3 lessons I have learnt from my 90-year-old dadi that will stay with me forever
By Kavya Karnatac
Main unhe pyaar se Ija bulati hoon, and honestly, I feel I’ve learned more from her than I did from school and college combined.
- Akele raho aur sab khud figure out karo
When I moved out at 21, it was a big change. My parents were understandably worried, but my dadi had complete faith in me. She’s lived alone her whole life, nearing 90, and still insists on doing things independently. It’s her way, and she prefers it. Watching her do things on her own taught me that I, too, can be independent. Had I not been independent, I don’t think I would have reached the 400k milestone on Instagram.
Takeaway: Learn to do things on your own before you delegate them.
- Dur raho par apno se dur nahi
Even though she lives alone, she makes sure to regularly connect with her children. She’s instilled in me the habit of calling my parents at least once a week or every two weeks. Distance doesn’t mean you have to be far from your loved ones.
Take this post as a reminder and call your parents regularly.
- Creative aur busy raho
All my sweaters until the 10th grade were stitched by her. She didn’t have to do it, but she did.
Kyun?
Kyunki woh apni hobbies ko seriously lete hain.
I have also picked this from her. Koi bhi kaam agar accha lagta hai toh usse man laga ke karo. Don’t just work for money, work because you enjoy working.
She encouraged me to pursue my interests and hobbies, resulting in my journey into content creation and teaching – a profession that may be uncertain but it is immensely satisfying.
Had I not taken my hobbies like public speaking and theatre seriously I would not have developed camera presence.
