At 77, my grandfather is as vibrant and active as he was at 17. Despite his frail appearance, with a pale face and a seemingly weak body, his spirit and lifestyle tell a different story. Through a disciplined routine of regular exercise, meditation, walking, and a healthy diet, he has maintained his health, fitness, and youthful energy.

Every day, without fail, he wakes up at 7 am to start his morning ritual of exercise and meditation. By 10 am, he’s ready to head to work, come rain, shine, or freezing cold. His dedication to punctuality and hard work is unwavering. He’s always believed that “Time is the real master. Respect your time, and it will respect you. Disregard it, and it can destroy you.” This mantra has guided him throughout his life, and he firmly advocates for a simple, healthy lifestyle and regular exercise. He often advises us, especially the younger generation, to avoid all forms of intoxication, including alcohol and cigarettes.

However, his journey hasn’t always been smooth. There was a time when his health was in a dire state. He suffered from numerous ailments, endured a lot of pain and struggled to walk without support.

I recall a few years ago, during a particularly intense summer heatwave, my grandfather couldn’t even step out of his room. He depended heavily on the fan or air conditioning to get through the day.

But today, regardless of the weather, he goes to work and walks there by himself. It’s his incredible willpower that has enabled this transformation. He exemplifies the saying, “Health is wealth,” showing how determination and perseverance can lead to a remarkable comeback.

My grandfather also manages his shop’s records on his own, every day after returning from work, even if it means working late into the night. His work ethic at this age is something we all can learn from. While we often procrastinate and put things off until tomorrow, he teaches us the value of punctuality, discipline, and hard work, qualities we often neglect.

I proudly say, “People retire from their work, but my grandfather retries his work daily.”
